Started in 1986 as a "mother - son" business by Ruthann and Harry "Sonny" Saul, PLEASANT STREET BOOKS has become a regional landmark of sorts.
Located in beautiful Woodstock, Vermont, along the Ottaquechee River, with an uninterrupted
view across to Billings Farm and up to the hills of Pomfret, the book
store is set in a red barn behind an 1840's brick house.
With a reputation for discriminating taste, breadth of culture, and
fine hand carved book cases, PLEASANT STREET BOOKS is one of the few
remaining open book shops in New England where one can walk in and buy
both good, inexpensive used books in a wide range of subjects as well as
rare and valueable collectors items.
The store - with occasional noteable exceptions - has been primarily
a one man operation since the death of Mrs. saul in 2003. Over the years
greeting cards, rare old newspapers, autographs, coins, ephemera,
comics, and baseball cards have played a part in the business, but now -
again with occasional noteable exceptions - the concentration is on BOOKS.
